REVIEW: Mae Krell - “phantom limb” Single

‘Tis the seasonal depression, where folks search far & wide for their favorite somber songs to aid their abetting hibernation. Mae Krell’s latest single, “phantom limb,” just may be one of the tracks that keep you warm this winter.

This twinkling piano ballad offers itself as a cathartic outlet for the singer-songwriter & their own personal tribulations, while simultaneously comforting listeners who may have dealt with similar visceral feelings. Krell confronts their battle with addiction noting that it’s not something that just disappears, but rather remains permanently attached to you like a phantom limb. Krell expressed: “‘phantom limb’ speaks to my recovery, and what it's like to choose to carry something difficult with you instead of letting it go untreated.” With hauntingly poignant lines like, “I know one is too much / but I'm always tempted / by the simple idea / that this time might be different,” it’s inevitable to feel a pit in your stomach.

Mae Krell recently announced a tour where they’ll be supporting another emotionally vulnerable artist, Ethan Jewell. The combination of these two impassioned forces will be the equivalent of one therapy session. (That was just a bad joke, please still attend your therapy sessions.) In any case, please refer to the link above to find more information on where they’ll be heading in January & you can find Mae everywhere else below.
