REVIEW: I Met A Yeti - “Red-Eyes B. Yeti” Single

Florida’s rising post-hardcore band, I Met A Yeti, recently released a hard-hitting single titled “Red-Eyes B. Yeti” along with its music video. They’ve managed to maintain a common theme between projects with the mention of their band name’s mascot (the Yeti), including their 2019 single “Blue-Eyes White Yeti” that later introduced their debut EP, Camp Yeti. Emerging into this new I Met A Yeti era, we become more acquainted with this multifaceted creature in this latest release.

“Red-Eye B. Yeti” is a rollercoaster of groove shifts and tonalities that make each following 10 seconds exhilaratingly unpredictable. The signature I Met A Yeti skittering electric guitar riffs perfectly embellish lead singer, Daisy Chamberlin’s, voice during each changeover from guttural screams to a captivating cadence.

The music video also pulls a lot of its visual inspiration from the descriptive, morose lyrics seen through the eyes of the protagonist. “Red reflects off those ruby eyes / In my mirror, they look dimmer / This curse I wake with, I sleep with / The taste of lavender / Boiling, it melts my tongue.” The poetry presents itself in various ways throughout the video and eventually lead us to the trembling & quaking visual accompanied by the thunderous musical finale.

In the midst of the “swancore” niche, I Met A Yeti are paving their own path in the scene fulfilling the ultimate goal of fresh & innovative music. Keep an eye out for more I Met A Yeti in the meantime.
