REVIEW: Cherry Lena - “Toxic Woman” Single

Canadian alt-pop artist, Cherry Lena, made her first national debut on Quebec’s The Voice back in 2018 & has been blowing audiences away with her vocals ever since. Her latest single, “Toxic Woman,” is a lyrically-empowering R&B track that showcases her smooth vocalizations wonderfully.

“Toxic Woman” is sonically a silky & sultry R&B track but juxtaposes that tone in Lena’s inspiring lyricism. She describes the importance of utilizing personal pain & strife as a beneficial tool instead of dwelling in it— in essence: what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

Lena shared, "This song is a sort of letter to myself. I wrote it last summer, at a dark time of my life. Whenever I feel down, I have this strange sensation that I'm stuck in a web of eternal negativity. Losing my sense of time, It’s like my sadness overpowers every part of my being and I feel incapable of relating to others. Relying only on myself in these moments, this song kind of represents the interaction between myself and a past happier version of me."
