REVIEW: BLKVAPOR debut EP ‘VAPORISING’

Describing themselves as noisy emo queers, Baltimore-based group BLKVAPOR dropped their debut EP VAPORISING and it is unbelievably captivating. The EP includes three songs that perfectly showcase their musical range as they do not necessarily fit one specific genre. Originating in 2019, college friends: Safra Tadesse, Kirby Bell, and Jamie Grace Alexander (aka Proxy) started making their own beats and then transitioned into performing covers from artists like Paramore, Radiohead, and Evanescence. Eventually they started releasing their own music that has placed them in the punk scene.

Starting off with the song “Dragonslayer',' this opens up the EP with an edge to show off their post-punk side. With electrifying guitar riffs accompanied by haunting vocals, this song is energetic; the harmonies are visceral and easy to get lost in. The second song, “Doomscroll,” shows their softer side with less harsh chords and more melancholy lyrics. “There is no end” is repeated quite a bit in the song complementing the slow guitar. The end of the song highlights their vocal range with emotion and heavier guitar riffs. It’s hard to pick a favorite of the three, but this one is definitely up there for me. “Foxglove” is the final song from the EP and it gives us more of a rock and grunge sound. Leaving you wanting more, this song is fun to listen and dance to. It wraps the EP up with a pretty little genre-less ribbon and keeps up on our toes for more to come. Overall VAPORISING was a crazy ride of different feelings and it was so enjoyable— I loved every second of it.
