REVIEW: DACEY - “BITTER” Single

Canadian-bred group DACEY have been challenging the dynamic by incorporating elements of various genres, from indie pop to hip-hop to lo-fi, ever since their official debut in 2019. DACEY’s most recent single, “BITTER,” took their musical creativity & versatility to the next level.

Stinging electronic feedback initiates the very beginning of “BITTER,” before diving into the enveloping kaleidoscopic melody. The combination of the slow groove & tantalizing bass exudes a Tame Impala type of vibe, but soon blossoms into a unique entity that is completely their own once Dacey Andrada’s vocals are introduced. The verses have a lo-fi R&B style to them, while the chorus blends together psychedelic rock with bedroom pop, as the fuzzy stacked vocals melt on top of the captivating guitar riffs. Just as the track culminates, the song abruptly halts and fades into a stripped-down voice recording of Andrada & a ukulele with moments of dreamy harmonies… before shifting right back into gear to conclude a truly transcendent track.
