REVIEW: Niomí - ‘Pain Relief’ EP

UK-based singer-songwriter & producer, Niomí, recently released her debut EP, Pain Relief. Niomí shares intimate life hurdles & traumas including endometriosis & abusive relationships. The project was birthed as a form of solace for herself, but in turn became a piece of art others can definitely seek comfort in as well.

Pain Relief contains 3 tracks with their titles tying together as one complete thought: “Love Is,” “Never That Easy,” & “With You.” The first track, “Love Is,” is a haunting piano ballad of melancholic ache as subtle waves of strings croon in the background. This airy symphony evolves into a cinematic experience, making the listener feel like they’re the main character.

Somber piano keys lead us into the following track, “Never That Easy.” During this wistfully raw ballad, we’re taken on a journey of contemplation & realization of all the warning signs within Niomí’s relationship at that time. As shown in the live performance above, Niomí also gracefully showcases her vocal range while spilling her heart out. Final track, “With You,” introduces us to a more downtempo lo-fi atmosphere with an undulating choir accompanying the main vocals, only enhancing this cathartic finale.

The singer shared: “Most of my songs are, at their core, about pain in the form of heartbreak and finding some relief from it.” Thus, Pain Relief poses as a beautifully poignant soundtrack for relief & consolation for whoever may need it.
