BUZZWORTHY: Jhariah

“NO GENRE, ALL DRAMA” is what’s in Jhariah’s Instagram bio and he sure does exceed our expectations tremendously. Pulling inspiration from bands like Panic! At The Disco, System Of A Down, and Tech N9ne, Bronx based artist Jhariah Clare and collaborator Cole Raser are an unidentifiable duo that break all genre barriers. During my first listen, I swore that I could almost hear Ryan Ross’ musical influence; their lyrical work is lively and wonderfully dramatic. While both creators do work together on projects, they are more separate entities in the band rather than one collective idea. This is most notable after listening to many of their songs as they all take a different approach on showing Jhariah’s talent.

Some of my favorite tracks include “Flight of the crows,” “The Marching Dolls,” and “DEBT COLLECTOR.” “Flight of the Crows” is definitely a song you’d hear being played as you walked into a jazz bar. It’s exciting, macabre and the percussion makes you want to dance all night. Jhariah’s vocal range is crazy; he can hit those high notes that are perfectly accompanied by upbeat brass instruments and the slow piano in the background. While “DEBT COLLECTOR” is more similar to the jazzy sounds of FOTC, their song “The Marching Dolls” is more rock influenced. The heavy drums and energetic lyrics show that Jhariah is truly a chameleon in all aspects.

While checking out his discography, make sure to listen to their newest single “Selfstarter A.E.” with the band Telethon. Released halfway through 2021, it’s a more pop punk sound than some of their other work, but it’s still giving the theatrics that Jhariah is known for. Definitely give yourself some time to listen to this duo, they are so creative and I can’t wait to see what they release next!
