Now that summer has officially begun, artists from all over are releasing their new music into the world. This means that it’s the perfect time to discover new artists of all different genres and origins. From hip-hop, to indie, to electronic and more, here is a diverse list of eight up-and-coming artists you don’t want to sleep on.
2AM Ricky
An undeniably talented rapper and passionate LGBTQIA+ advocate, 2AM Ricky uses his music to act as a message and to be a voice of representation. Full of catchy lyrics, funky beats, and a silky-smooth voice, 2AM Ricky’s music recently made music history as his latest song “MOVE” charted at number 3 on the iTunes charts within 8 hours of its release. This makes him the first black, transmasc rapper to ever appear on the charts. With a new music video and more music on the way, 2AM Ricky’s career is seeing much deserved recognition this year.
Gorus
Inspired by off-kilter indie-rock dreamscapes and dark labyrinthian introspection, Gorus finds the intersection between alt-rock, the ethereal, and artistic vision. Gorus successfully merges his curious mind and abstract introspections with the accessibility of his earlier releases (under his previous name, Amina) to create a new beginning and a new era of maturity. His debut album Future Soul is a dynamic array of alt-rock tracks swirled with acoustic melodies, synthesizers, and dark and mysterious undertones.
Andrea Strappelli
Swedish-based Italian singer/songwriter Andrea Strappelli is on the rise with his latest release titled ‘There’s a Time.” The song tells the story of new beginnings and the resilience required to navigate them. With its simple yet profound structure, the lyrics delve deep into the highs and lows of life, mirroring Strappelli's own experiences of starting anew in a foreign city. Strappelli’s captivating voice makes him stand out from the crowd and shows his relentless potential.
The Numb Project
The Numb Project is the artistic moniker of Chris Calarco, a Portland, OR-based musician and producer. Merging elements of lofi, hip-hop, and cinematic music; Calarco creates soundscapes that are both introspective and expansive. He has the ability to capture the human experience so vividly which allows him to repeatedly resonate with listeners on multiple levels.
Harrison Cramond
Born on the slopes and raised on the beaches of Australia and Hawaii, Harrison Cramond has been intimately connected with music from a very young age—his mother played Beethoven to him before he was even born. Drawing on the diverse cultures he's experienced, the 20-year-old artist's music is a reflection of his eclectic upbringing. His latest track, “Wait Till I Get Home” is a feel-good tune that blends acoustics, electric guitar, drums, and piano.
Blake Rave
Blake Rave, a South Dakota native, has a knack for combining soft-rock vibes with waves of nostalgia. His latest track which features ample guitars and his signature vocals invites listeners to reflect on cherished memories, lost friends, and the evolution of personal identities. Blake is not just a musician but also a philanthropist at heart. His commitment to charity work is well-known, including his involvement with organizations such as Rock to Cure Cancer, Music Beats Cancer, the Junior League of Sioux Falls and more.
The Gods They Made
In the midst of a global pandemic, a new sound emerged from the confines of quarantine and The Gods They Made was formed. Based in the historic city of Geneva, Switzerland, during a time when social gatherings were a distant memory, The Gods They Made, an international quintet hailing from all over the world, found solace and expression through their music. The single "Live for Now" has evolved from its original form, a demo track titled "Our Escape," into a minimalist anthem that captures the zeitgeist of the current era.
Lydia the Bard
Lydia the Bard is a London-based singer-songwriter and YouTube creator. With her unique blend of indie folk-pop and creative use of storytelling, Lydia has captivated a global audience, offering a fresh voice in the music scene. Her new track “Afraid of Quiet,” is a lively and dynamic anthem that encapsulates Lydia's personal journey with anxiety and the quest for inner peace.
