Shoegaze & Heartache Collide on Talking Violet’s New Single “In Your Mind”
With their latest release “In Your Mind,” Talking Violet delivers a mix of heavy emotion and shimmering sound. The Canadian four-piece are known for blending shoegaze, grunge, and dream-pop into what they call “dreamo,” and here they take that sound and give it both weight and vulnerability.
The track opens with thick, glistening layers of guitar and instantly pulls you into its atmosphere. There’s a brightness in the sound, but it’s cut with something heavier underneath, like sunlight breaking through clouds you can’t quite shake. Jillian Goyeau’s vocals sit right in the middle of it all; soft yet piercing, carrying both comfort and ache.
Lyrically, it’s about the helplessness of loving someone who’s lost in their own struggles, and that desperate wish to still be remembered when distance grows. Lines like “Wonder if I echo in your mind” and “Driving away, promise me you’re okay” hit hard because they sound so real, like words you’ve wanted to say yourself but never could. There’s frustration, there’s longing, but there’s also care woven into every verse.
What really makes “In Your Mind” shine is how the music mirrors that emotional push and pull. The soaring guitars and crashing drums feel like waves rising and falling, matching the lyrics’ cycle of reaching out and pulling back. It’s layered, heavy, and gorgeous all at once. The kind of track you can sink into and get lost in.
