Tinashe Makes Being A Popstar Look Almost Too Easy

For over a decade, R&B/pop artist Tinashe has been relentlessly grinding in the music industry. Her dedication as a singer-songwriter & performer has landed her worldwide recognition for hit singles ranging from “2 On” from 2014 album Aquarius to “Nasty” from 2024 album Quantum Baby. Recently releasing her eighth studio album, Popstar, she continues to prove that she’s worthy of all the success in her career & more.

Popstar is an album best experienced chronologically; track listing evidently methodical as a few songs seamlessly transition into each other. Tinashe collaborated with producer Zack Sekoff, who was also a part of the production in her hits “No Broke Boys” & “Nasty.” There’s a certain flair he adds to each track as they sound completely different but still blend together wonderfully.

The transition of “Too Easy” into “Melatonin” perfectly encapsulates the atmosphere of a DJ set, which Tinashe has been known to dabble in. The album, however, paces itself with a balance of upbeat dancefloor anthems, stripped back pop ballads & sexy electronic grooves. “Nobody Wanna Dance Anymore” & “Crash Out” are standout tracks that provide a captivating rhythm & distinctive beats that are tailored perfectly for the club (or for dancing alone in the bedroom.) While Tinashe tackles subjects of toxic relationships & intimacy in her lyrics, she also broaches the topic of the difficulty growing up in Hollywood & how it’s not as glamorous as it seems.

“They romanticize it all 'cause the weather's always nice / If you wanna sell your soul, then you gotta pay the price…” -title track, “Popstar”

The integration of electronic synthesizers and R&B beats create some of the best pieces on the album. “Twentyfive Eight,” “Cloud 9” & “Brainrot” are all prime examples of how a contagiously catchy tune can wonderfully complement the impressive vocal stylings… or vice versa. There’s something for every pop-lover on this record to enjoy. Even if the club isn’t your scene, you can still dance the night away with Popstar as your soundtrack.

The “Twentyfive Eight” grind does not stop with Tinashe as she is already becoming booked & busy for the next year. She recently announced a Spring tour for 2027, The Show Must Go On, and fully sold out a majority of the cities’ venues. If you haven’t already purchased tickets, you can find them below & keep an eye out for inevitably more performances to be announced.
