Mamamoo Sing Their Hearts Out To Cedar Park
Bright, green radish-shaped lights filled the crowd as fans waited for Mamamoo to perform their first ever show in Cedar Park at H-E-B Center for their 4WARD World Tour. The show marked the group’s first Texas show in three years since their My Con World Tour stopped in Fort Worth in 2023. Members Hwasa & Wheein both brought their solo tours to Texas since then to much fanfare, but fans were still overjoyed to finally see them back together as a foursome.
As soon as fans heard the opening lines of “Mr Ambiguous,” they instantly scanned the stage looking for the source of the melodic vocals. Instead, they were shocked when a spotlight hit the venue’s lower bowl and the members were seen singing from the crowd, surrounded by their adoring fans. The group’s debut song was the perfect start to their celebration of Mamamoo’s legendary career.
Undoubtedly, one of Mamamoo’s biggest draws is the members’ individual charms that each appeal to a different kind of fan. This was evident whenever Moonbyul started rapping, Hwasa encouraged the audience to sing along, and Solar or Wheein had a crazy impressive vocal moment. While the cheers were loud for each of them, it was clear that they were coming from different fans, who each had their own favorite member.
The setlist is full of fan favorite B-sides like “4x4ever” and “Sleep In The Car,” as well as the singles that made them the legends they are today. It’s undeniable that Mamamoo’s vocals steal the show at every turn, with absolutely no doubt in fans’ minds that the microphones were not just on, but at the highest volume. However, that doesn’t mean the rest of their performance was lacking at all. Audience members were constantly seen swooning and flailing with excitement during the signature dance moves of “Egotistic” and “HIP,” as the girls showed off their sexy side.
Mamamoo took video interludes to a whole new level with an animated short that depicted the girls as four fairies: Wind (Wheein), Sun (Solar), Star (Moonbyul), and Flower (Hwasa). The short follows the fairies as they go to Trot school, with the goal of performing in front of a crowd of radishes (the symbol for “Moomoos”— Mamamoo’s super fans). When the four fairies step onto the stage on the big screen, their real life counterparts join them to sing a Trot version of “Taller Than You.”
When explaining the performance, Solar asks the audience if they know about Trot, a Korean folk pop genre that was a precursor to modern Kpop. When fans cheered in response, she then proclaimed that the performance was more energetic than usual because the crowd was familiar with the genre.
In order for a group as prolific as Mamamoo to fill the setlist with as many beloved tracks as they could, some songs needed to be cut a little short, which meant fans were treated to a fun medley consisting of “AZE GAG,” “Waggy,” “NEW YORK,” and “Freakin Shoes.” Each track was given its own set that matched the song’s theme and the members were able to showcase their ability to pull off such different performances one after another so seamlessly.
Each member of Mamamoo has an incredibly successful solo career, so it was a no-brainer for them to have their own solo stages in addition to their group performances. Fans with floor seats were in for a treat, as Hwasa performed her solo, “So Cute” from the crowd, with one lucky fan even getting to dance alongside her. The crowd went crazy when Wheein sang “The Symphony of Fxxckboys,” an all English pop song about her frustration with guys who play games full of vocal highlights. When the song ended, Wheein walked off stage and into the crowd to pass the mic to Moonbyul, who turned up the volume with her club anthem, “Hertz.” Last, but certainly not least, Solar took the stage to sing “Blues,” a Jazzy track from her second EP, ‘Colors’ that left audience members speechless.
The second video interlude of the night was a Variety Show style segment where the girls tested their compatibility in a journey to find love. Audience members got to see the girls play fun games and attempt to win challenges all for the chance to win the hearts of their Moomoos. The interlude acted not only as a way for the girls to get changed backstage, but also to showcase their personalities in ways they couldn’t during the performances.
The last act of the show was filled with back to back hit songs like “HIP,” “Dingga,” and “gogobebe,” keeping the energy high even as the concert was coming to an end. While fans knew there was still more to come if they were patient enough, the show “officially” ended with a performance of “Wind Flower,” where the lyrics were shown on the big screens in English, so fans could truly understand what the members were singing to them.
Before the members came back onstage for their three song encore, audience members were prompted to sing along to karaoke versions of “Girl Crush” and “L.I.E.C” to convince the girls to come back. In an amusing showcase of the language barrier, fans mumbled through the Korean lyrics, but sang their hearts out whenever there was a stray English lyric.
Everyone in the venue got the chance to see Mamamoo up close when the girls roamed the arena as they sang “You’re The Best” in personalized versions of the tour merch. Moonbyul even came out wearing a cowboy hat, while Hwasa wore a Buc-ee’s hat, repping the Texas-based gas station chain. By the time the girls started singing the final song, “Um Oh Ah Yeh,” fans knew they would miss the girls but cherish the memories they made together. Texas Moomoos are already eagerly awaiting their return for more!
