REVIEW: Quinton Brock - “Touch” Single

Quinton Brock is surfing the rock genre on a wave of his own. Releasing his song called “Touch” late last year, the Brooklyn based artist highlights the excitement and anxiousness around getting to be close to someone again after quarantine. “If you think I’m nervous it’s because it’s probably true / So touch me slowly, I’ve been lonely too.” His soft, pining lyrics accompanied by lively guitar chords and an energetic and continuous drum beat give off the thrilling feeling of meeting people and getting out into the world again after a long time of being alone.

The music video features Brock and some friends connecting with each other and having fun at a party. A long and lonely pandemic has caused everyone to quarantine alone and getting back out into the world has been hard, yet exciting for people. Whether people have been able to reunite with family, a group of friends, or even just a loved one, wanting to simply touch another human is something most of us can relate to during the pandemic. The video directed by Creative Connect & Mndgames can be viewed above. It’s almost nostalgic and exciting to see people coming together even if it’s just for a video.

Brock started off in alt-rock duo The Get Money Squad (TGM$) which seemed to take inspiration from genres including surf-rock and R&B; he has mostly released singles since continuing his career on his own, but he has shown that he can dominate as well as he did in the group. He has clearly channeled a similar sound as TGM$ while also creating his own unique sound. He definitely falls into an indie-rock meets post-punk sound, but you can clearly hear the surf-rock influence quite a bit in his newest single. Previously having stated that he wants to change rock music forever, his first couple singles have shown that he can and will do what it takes to establish his own creative sound in the genre.
