REVIEW: nightlife EP ‘fallback’

Baltimore based soulpunk' group, nightlife, emerge from the alternative scene with the freshest r&b/funk twist best exhibited in their most recent EP, fallback. A real taste of the full project began about a month ago with leading singles, “nightlifetypebeat” & “fallback” creating an online frenzy of enthusiasm. This EP is compiled of 5 songs that showcases each member’s evident talent wonderfully; whether it be smooth bass guitar, pulsating percussion or velvety vocals, there’s a musical moment for everyone to appreciate.

The group’s vocalist, Hansel Romero, does the producing for their songs as well. It’s one of the elements that makes the listening experience that more stimulating & exciting— never knowing what to expect in each track. For instance in “fool me once,” listeners are brought on a y2k-esque dark pop voyage that eventually leads them to the most heavy-hitting bridge drop of wailing electric guitar & punk-driven drums. Each track is so distinct & different yet still feel very purposeful & cohesive as one entity. It’s most evident when getting to the final tracks, “hard for me” & “no pleasure,” not just in the contrasting tempos but also in the overall song structure, further proving the band’s expertise in experimental production & composition.

fallback is inevitably going to find its way into everyone’s Spotify Wrapped, so you might as well get a head-start. Make sure to turn it up loud enough so they can hear you over in Baltimore. Find more of nightlife below.
