REVIEW: DOUBLECAMP Double Feature

Nashville indie-pop duo DOUBLECAMP have been releasing a steady stream of catchy fuzzy-feeling singles over the past two years, and their newest outing is no different. Joe and Jordan have created another cozy soundtrack perfect for sweaters-and-hot-apple-cider weather with Up Late, Couldn’t Sleep.

“Lucid” features a soft but bouncy beat and melody that will be stuck in your head for days. Add a falsetto chorus and some delightfully cheesy lines about being in love (“On a train that’s set to take us to nirvana… You got me feeling lucid”) and you get a song that sounds like it was meant to be the score of a cute montage in a romcom.

The second track on the EP, “Lose it All,” adds a bit of depth as it expresses the age-old message that all you need is love. A pulsing bassline underpins a lamenting chorus, “I could lose it all, but I won’t let you go.” It’s a good reminder that even when things are falling apart, we can hold onto the ones we love.

So grab a loved one, curl up by a bonfire, and listen to Up Late, Couldn’t Sleep. ‘Tis the season.
