Consider Tennessee taken over. Whitechapel ended their short three city tour across the Volunteer State in their hometown of Knoxville on December 21st. That show was the final date in their annual "Tennessee Takeover" tour. They brought along bands Sanguisugabogg, PeelingFlesh and Gates to Hell who were all a sight to behold and hear.
It was a unique show to witness for sure. The temperatures outside were cold, but the energy inside was on fire. Each band used green, red and white lights during their sets, sampled iconic Christmas songs by Mariah Carey and Frank Sinatra and used holiday puns to push the crowd into crowd surfing. It's not often you see people wearing death metal shirts and Santa hats on their heads shoving each other in the pit, but it's always awesome when you do.
I want to give a special mention to one of PeelingFlesh's last songs, which combined a series of pig squeals with the blazing bars of Memphis rapper, Glorilla. That's the beauty of live music. You never know what you'll hear sampled and covered during a set.
Whitechapel's annual "Tennessee Takeover" tour is the perfect holiday tradition for any true metal lover, so if you're looking for something new to do next year, you might want to add the event to your naughty or nice list. 2025 will be the event's 10th anniversary, so it's sure to be something you don't want to miss!
