Grammy winning artist/producer, Thundercat, and his band gave a smooth, electrifying and funky performance at Kemba! Live the other night. As the packed venue waited for the eclectic band to perform, a giant ‘thundercat’ head prop piece sat in the middle of the stage looking out into the crowd.
With no opening act, the large Thundercat eyes glowed, the stage lights came on and out came Thundercat, the drummer, Justin Brown and his keyboardist, Dennis Hamm. Thundercat wore this black crystal covered shirt, yellow w/ a black stripe “Dragonball Z” pants, a diamond “Super Sonic” necklace and holding his iconic bass featuring anime character, Asuka from Evangelion. The way everyone played was out of this world. During his faster songs like “Tokyo”, the speed of how they played created this bolt of energy that sent waves through the crowd. When it came to the slower songs like “Satellite” and “Dragonball Durag” the funky sound just brought a whole other level of vibes. Thundercat’s high singing voice just melted along with the instruments and brought this cool groove to the stage.
Ultimately, even without an opening act the Columbus crowd got to see a truly great performance and listen to some outstanding music.
