Boston’s Roadrunner was charmed with 3 nights of Clairo this week in celebration of her latest album release, Charm. We were graced with the opportunity to witness the final night of 3, where herself & fans alike dressed up in their most creative Halloween costumes.
Dressed up as Wednesday Addams, Clairo took the stage to Wendy Rene’s “After Laughter (Comes Tears)” to delight in a quick drink with her band. After a hearty cheers, she kicks off the set with Charm favorites including “Nomad” & “Second Nature.” Fans knowing exactly when to chime in when she turns the microphone out for them to sing along. She bashfully & continuously thanks Boston for their attendance & support for three sold-out nights in between songs. While Charm was certainly the bulk of the set, Clairo made sure to pay homage to her humble beginnings by performing a few 2018 tracks like “Flaming Hot Cheetos” & “4Ever.”
Her track, “Alewife,” was a wonderful surprise addition to the setlist specifically dedicated to Boston because of its lyrical ties to the area. Fan-favorites like “Bags” & “Sexy To Someone” were performed towards the end of the night, with no sense of exhaustion from the crowd since the recital back was stronger than ever. Clairo was having so much fun, she decided to play her final song, “Juna,” twice for good measure; to quote: “fuck it, why not!” Since the singer grew up in Massachusetts, there was a natural sense of camaraderie between her & the crowd each night— most fans seeing her live every time she comes back like an old friend. The Charm Tour was a truly charming & intimate experience as if the crowd was just sitting in on an elaborate studio recording session. Even if you’ve seen a Clairo show before, you’re still going to want to make it out for this new era.
