On the first of two consecutive nights in Boston, pop rock band 5 Seconds of Summer graced the stage at Fenway’s MGM Music Hall giving an outstanding performance. Although fans were queued up outside for several hours enduring the summer heat prior to the show, you would never have known with the amount of energy that was unleashed once their favorite band made an appearance.

The 5 Seconds of Summer Show Tour officially kicked off in South America but only recently launched in North America with Boston being the 2nd stop. With the gameshow-inspired tour theme, the introduction to their set included a satirical video montage of each member as the audiences’ “hosts” right before the grand entrance to their song, “Bad Omens” from their latest record 5SOS5. It didn’t take long to get the party started as a blanket of confetti covered the crowd by the following track, “2011.” Fans were elated as they proceeded the set with songs from every 5SOS era, such as: “Babylon” & “Ghost of You” from Youngblood, “Vapor” & “She’s Kinda Hot” from Sounds Good Feels Good, and “Easier” & “Teeth” from CALM. The band even included a unique interactive polling system for a surprise song by tossing a giant inflatable dice into the crowd with song titles on each side, which (for us) landed on the throwback track, “Wrapped Around Your Finger,” from their 2014 EP. Needless to say, the crowd was ecstatic & the boys were thriving right from that energy as they continued with endless entertainment; climbing up technicolored amps on each side of the stage, gallivanted around with giant ketchup & mustard bottles (because 5-sauce), and orchestrated a competition of who-can-be-louder: the crowd or Ashton’s drum solo. A few more confetti cannon bursts later, the show came to a finale with their 2018 single, “Youngblood,” where it wouldn’t be a surprise if the whole city of Boston was able to hear the crowd singing along. The resurgence of 5 Seconds of Summer is inevitably flourishing & you can ask anyone who’s attended that it’s highly recommended to catch a live show while you can.
