Kehlani recently kicked off their American headlining tour, Blue Water Roadtrip, and stopped by Boston to play the pavilion by the [not so] blue water on Friday. Before the uncertain times of the pandemic, Kehlani was constantly keeping herself busy by dropping albums & supporting big names like Justin Bieber & Demi Lovato on the road. Needless to say, it was long overdue for Kehlani to perform all of their latest treasures for in front of all of their own eager fans. Delicate white fabric draped around the backing band & a screen displaying some personal video diaries featuring her daughter & significant other between moments tranquil beach waves & old time cartoons. Kehlani made sure to wholly give homage to their latest LP, blue water road, by performing nearly every track from it including “tangerine,” “little story,” & “altar.” OG Kehlani fans were definitely still satisfied too, as she’d play segments of some older favorites in an unrecognizable arrangement as a ‘game’ for the audience to play along with; songs like “Distraction” & “In My Feelings.” (And fans certainly passed the test.) From the meticulous choreography to stripped down ballads, Kehlani proved to be an effortlessly versatile & endlessly engaging performer. If you’ve yet to see them live, now’s your chance.
